JD Inwood 360 Assistant

INWOOD 360 PROGRAM ASSISTANT

PART TIME: 17.5hrs/week

RESPONSIBLE TO; INWOOD 360 PROGRAM MANAGER (the “Manager”)

Job Duties: Works with the Program Manager to develop and the Inwood 360 program.

Coordinates efforts of the Manager, BID Inwood 360 and Northern Manhattan Arts and Culture. Along with the Manager, serves as the “face” of WHIDC’s Inwood 360 program.

With the Manager, conducts a continuous year-round cycle of door-to-door surveys of all commercial space (each business location will be surveyed in-person at least three times in the course of a year). Helps identify useable and available space for business and cultural activities in both occupied and unoccupied commercial space in the community. Works with the manager and storeowners to promote linkages between businesses and culture as part of the overall Inwood 360 marketing methodology.

Supports activities provided by NMAC through physical presence, presentations and assistance.

Supports the Manager and NYC SBS Business Solutions Center staff and others efforts to present monthly business development seminars/presentations at Inwood locations. May be called upon to assist in the presentation of workshops in conjunction with other WHIDC staff, SBS staff and/or others. Assists in the recruitment of appropriate attendance for these activities through personal and organizational contacts.

Identifies Inwood businesses and entrepreneurs in need of assistance as part of a door-to-door survey and ongoing direct contact with Inwood businesses with the Manager. Assesses business development and capital needs on a preliminary basis and schedules a WHIDC business counselor to meet with the person at his/her place of business. Follows up on behalf of the business to insure services are being provided. Insures information is entered into WHIDC client data base.

Assists the Manager in identifying a location(s) for a permanent Inwood Street Market. Work will entail the identification of potentially permanent sites. Assists in the implementation and operation of at least two “pop up” street markets in FY’17.

Helps recruit vendors, assist individuals in the completion of vendor participation agreements and securement of any necessary permits or licenses.

Will be called upon to attend meetings and provide program services before, during and after normal business hours and on weekends.

Work with the Manager to develop and refine the FY18 Inwood activities as the Inwood Street market and program as a whole evolves over time.

With the Manager, acts as our Inwood 360 representative with regards to contacting and securing the cooperation of local merchants, business, institutions, community groups, municipal agencies and elected officials whose services, cooperation or assistance are required for the successful completion of programs.

Assists in the coordination of efforts with the Washington Heights BID, elected officials, community groups and others involved in the program under the direction of the Manager.

Assists in the preparation of narrative and statistical reports required by DSBS and WHIDC. Enters client and other data into program data base, spreadsheets. Assists in the preparation of program correspondence, marketing materials, flyers, etc.

Translates program materials into Spanish and acts as a translator for the program (if the Manager is unable to do so). Helps identify new sources of technical and other business assistance in the course of managing the program and passes this information on to the Manager and WHIDC’s business counselors.

Attends monthly meetings with BID, NMAC, elected officials and others to coordinate services and receive feedback. Maintains physical presence.

Requirements:

Outgoing, trustworthy personality.

One year experience in a community service or development organization. Familiarity with the Inwood community, including its businesses, institutions and leaders.

Prefer Inwood resident

Must be able to express thoughts clearly, with excellent oral and writing skills.

Must possess basic computer skills, especially word processing, spreadsheets, and data base utilization.

Familiarity with the use of facebook, twitter, Instagram and other communications and marketing tools

INWOOD 360 MANAGER

Responsible to; WHIDC EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Job Duties: Works with the Exec. Director to develop the Inwood 360 program.

This is a 25 hour per week position.

In charge of day-to-day activities of WHIDC’s segment of the overall Inwood 360 Program. Coordinates efforts with corresponding staff of BID Inwood 360 and Northern Manhattan Arts and Culture and other organizations. Serves as the “face” of WHIDC’s Inwood 360 program.

Conducts a continuous year-round cycle of door-to-door surveys of all commercial space (each business location will be visited and surveyed in-person at least three times in the course of a year). Identifies useable and available space for business and cultural activities in both occupied and unoccupied commercial space in the community. Works with storeowners to promote linkages between businesses and culture as part of the overall Inwood 360 marketing methodology.

Negotiates and secures space via agreements with the proprietor/owner (after legal review). Develops a budget for the activation of such space for Inwood 360/NMAC activities (rent, electricity, security, etc.).

Coordinates services provided by NMAC with the rest of the program

Works with the BID on the development and implementation of commercial marketing activities. Tasked with getting individual storekeepers to utilize cultural activities to increase their business.

Secures commitments for the temporary or permanent use of vacant storefronts or other commercial space in the community through lease or other types of agreement. Manages and budgets the set-up of the activation such space(s) such as electrical power, physical security, minor leasehold improvements.

Works with NYC SBS Business Solutions Center staff and others to present monthly business development seminars/presentations at Inwood locations. Works with SBS and others develop activities/curriculum, and secure appropriate sites and presenters. Conducts workshops in conjunction with other WHIDC staff, SBS staff and/or others. Actively recruits appropriate attendance for these activities through personal and organizational contacts.

Works with consultant to enhance WHIDC’s website as a source for business development services and linkages for use by Inwood businesses.

The Manager will seek to develop a permanent Inwood Street Market. Work will entail the identification of potentially permanent sites. Share information and receive feedback from elected officials, CB#12, government agencies, vendors, 34th Precinct and other interested parties. Assesses viability of sites/market including street closures and sidewalks.

Manager will implement two “test” street markets in FY’17. These markets may or may not be located on a permanent site. Will explore the possibility of co-locating with the Inwood GreenMarket on Isham Street

Recruits vendors, develops vendor participation agreements, assists vendors with securing necessary permits, secures necessary street activity or other permits as required. Secures site control and site use agreement (if not SAP) and develops agreement for the temporary and permanent use of EZ-Up-type canopies by vendors (in conjunction with legal counsel).

Will be called upon to attend meetings and provide program services before, during and after normal business hours and on weekends.

Work with the Executive Director to develop and refine the FY18 Inwood 360 budget and activities as the Inwood Street market and program as a whole evolves.

Acts as the Inwood 360 representative with regards to contacting and securing the cooperation of local merchants, business, institutions, community groups, municipal agencies and elected officials whose services, cooperation or assistance are required for the successful completion of programs.

Responsible for the daily supervision of other program staff, consultants and volunteers with regard to the WHIDC Inwood 360 program. Coordinates program efforts with the Washington Heights BID, elected officials, community groups and others involved in the program, eliciting their detailed feedback and opinions.

Prepares narrative and statistical reports required by DSBS and WHIDC for approval by the Exec. Director. Directs the preparation of program correspondence, reporting, marketing, flyers, etc.
